Wykagyl Country Club is located in Westchester North of New York City. A private club dating back to 1898 and the course had work done by Coore & Crenshaw in 2006. I did not know of the course before being invited to play and it seems Wykagyl prefers it to be like this.

DRIVING RANGE

I warmed up on the range hitting a few balls. Nice facility.

Hole 1

The first hole is dogleg par 5 with a blind tee shot. You want to keep the tee ball on the left hand side of the fairway to give you the best possible approach shot to the green.

I hit a good drive and went for the green in my second shot. Came up short and made par.

Hole 3

The third hole is a tough par 4 where hitting the fairway is a must if you want a decent chance to get on the green in regulation. I missed my drive left and was in the green side bunker on the approach. A bogey.

HOLE 4

Hole 4 is a good par 3. A tricky green especially with the pin on the back part of the green as it was when we played. I took a chance and went for the pin and hit a great wedge but unfortunately did not make the birdie putt.

HOLE 5

The fifth hole is a par 4 with a split fairway that has a stream running through it. A difficult driving hole the left hand fairway is preferred to leave the best approach shot. I did not play the hole well with a tee shot in the rough and a 3 putt. A double bogey on the card.

HOLE 6

Hole 6 is a great par 5 and one of my favorite holes on the course.  A good drive hugging the left hand side will give you the opportunity to get on the green in two shots. I managed to find the fairway but had a bit too far uphill to reach the green. A good par after all.

HOLE 7

Hole 7 was playing straight into the wind and I hit the best shot of the day. A 6 iron to a gimme birdie.

HOLE 8

The 8th hole is another good par 4. After playing the first holes you really get a sense of how good a golf course Wykagyl Country Club is. Some spectacular holes on the front nine. I managed to carry the bunkers on the left but walked off the green with a bogey after some poor approach play.

HOLE 9

Wykagyl Country Club hole 9 is an uphill par 5 and reachable. I hit my tee shot on the left hand side of the fairway. The approach shot is blind to a green located down a hill towards to the clubhouse. You can chase the ball down the fairway onto the green. I missed it to the right and made par.

BACK NINE ON WYKAGYL COUNTRY CLUB

HOLE 10

The 10th is another par 5 with an uphill approach shot to the green. I found myself with a short chip from the front edge which I managed to get close to the hole and made birdie. A great way to start the back nine.

HOLE 11

11th hole is a short downhill par 3.

HOLE 13

Hole 13 is a challenging and long par 3 with a multi level green.

HOLE 15

HOLE 16

The 16th hole is a long par 3 with a difficult green. I missed my tee shot and 3 putted the challenging green resulting in a double bogey.

HOLE 17

17th hole is a short downhill par 4. You can play safe with a short club and leave a good approach or try to get close to the green. I opted for the later and took the driver from the tee. I missed the tee shot slightly left but hit a really good approach to setup a nice birdie.

HOLE 18

The finishing hole on Wykagyl Country Club is par 4 with a wide fairway. However the approach is tricky and requires a good shot. I found the fairway from the tee and had a wedge for the approach shot. I hit a really good shot that ended up in the fringe long of the pin. The green is very fast and I rolled my putt past the cup and missed the return. A disappointing finish with a bogey.

MY EXPERIENCE

Wykagyl Country Club is a really great golf course and I am thrilled to have experienced it. The course is a really good challenge. It is a big property and golf course with plenty of space. The experience afterwards in the clubhouse was very good as well. A great atmosphere and a lot of interaction between members and guests.

I played a decent round of golf with 3 birdies and a couple poor double bogeys. Overall score of 80 was satisfying and I am sure it will be difficult to beat another time.
