The first hole is a downhill par 4 measuring 325 meters from the yellow tees. It is a slight dogleg right to left with trees on both sides of the fairway.
I hit my driver into the right hand rough and had a gap wedge to the green. I safely 2 putted for an opening par on the first hole.
The second hole is another par 4 measuring 350 meters. A straight forward hole where I managed to find the fairway from the tee, but missed the GIR. This resulted in a bogey on the second hole.
The third hole is a great dogleg par 4 measuring 313 meters. It is almost a 90 degree dogleg and you have the opportunity to go for the green. This was the first time I played the course so I played safely down the fairway with a 5 iron, but would try to go for the green next time now that we know the line from the tee. The fairway slopes significantly in the landing area for the tee shot. This makes the hole a bit more challenging and interesting. Both my playing partner and I managed to hit some good approach shots and both made birdie.
Canyamel golf hole 4 is a really good par 5. It is a severe uphill shot to the green and you can not see the green from the fairway. I hit decent drive and went for the green in two. My approach shot ended up just short of the green and gave me a good chance for a birdie. I hit some really poor chip shots and ended up with a disappointing bogey. You can get a good view of the sea from the 5th green.
HOLE 5, short par 3 on Canyamel Golf
Hole 5 is the first par 3 on the course and is only 93m downhill. The green has 2 sections and is raised up with some well placed bunkers. I hit a gap wedge from the tee and was over the green which is obviously not the place to be. I did not manage to scramble, so made a poor bogey on what should have been a straight forward hole.
The 8th hole is a good par 3, 189 meters long. There is water behind the green and bunkers alongside the green. A good par 3 challenge. I hit a 5 iron and 2 putted for a par.
The 9th hole is one of most difficult holes on the course. It is 384 meter par 4 where the approach shot is uphill to a small green. There is a great little feature in the middle of the fairway where there is a small stone building in typical Mallorca design.
My drive was good and straight in the middle of the fairway. I hit my approach shot long and was left with a difficult chip shot. I made bogey on this really well designed par 4 on Canyamel Golf.
BACK NINE ON CANYAMEL GOLF
The 13th is another challenging par 4 with a tough fairway and approach to the green. I missed my tee shot right and had to lay up which resulted in a bogey.
14th hole is a good looking par 3 with several trees in front of the green. The views are stunning. If you mishit the teeshot you should preferably miss the green left or right. I came up short which is definitely not the place to be. There is small wall of rocks in front of green as you can tell from above picture and the green is quite narrow. I made bogey which was well deserved with a poorly executed tee shot.
The finishing hole is an uphill par 3 with views of the clubhouse. Normally I prefer reachable par 5s as finishing holes so you have an opportunity to gain a couple of shots if you really play well, but I have to say that this was also a really good challenging way to finish. The hole is 160 meters long uphill and was playing into the wind. A tough par 3 with a narrow green that makes it a difficult tee shot. I hit a really good draw with a 7 iron that left me with a good birdie opportunity. Unfortunately I was not able to convert, but finished with a par.
Canyamel golf is a nice golf course and it was well maintained. The facilities are good and the clubhouse is really nice. The course was very quite, so we could play at our own pace. I played well on the front nine but finished poorly to shoot a total of 85 which was not satisfactory. There are some really strong and challenging holes on the course that requires some good golf shots. A nice experience and a course I will visit again.
