Western Gailes golf club is located on the west coast of Scotland. It is close to the sea and as many other links courses the weather elements are one of the key parts to playing golf in Scotland.  I played the course during the Autumn of 2021. I have played several other courses in Scotland like Dumbarnie Links, Loch Lomond, Kingsbarns and many others.

HOLE 13

The 13th hole is a great par 3 with water running along the front of green. It has nice views of the sea and is a true links hole with bunkers protecting green. Even though the green is large, it still requires a good shot to get on and stay on the green.

HOLE 18

A strong finishin par 4 with wonderful links style fairway the gives you unpredictable lies uphill, downhill and sideways. It is a beautiful final hole on a true links course.

Above a great view of the 16th green with the water running in front of the green. The green has different sections where the pin can be placed and has bunkers on both sides. It is well protected by any offline shots to the green which I experienced. I hit a 7 iron approach shot which landed on the left hand side of green and rolled into the water. A really good and challenging par 4 that requires your best.

MY EXPERIENCE

Western Gailes is a classic links course and a true challenge. The course was in really good condition as was the overall experience. We had lunch in the clubhouse which was a nice. There was a club tournament the same day which was held to the expected high standards and golf traditions, with dresscode, meals, speaches etc.. all in all a memorable golf day in Scotland.
