North Sound golf club is the only 18 hole golf club in the Cayman’s. I visited the course during a Caribbean cruise.

Driving range and putting green

North Sound golf club has a water driving range which is a nice feature. I hit a few balls before my tee time and practiced some putting.

The golf course

I was joined by a couple of members on the first tee. Local residents and were very welcoming. We played from the back tee and it is a relatively short course measuring only 6000yards. The opening hole is a short par 3 in front of the clubhouse. An easy start to the round.

Hole 2 at North Sound golf club

The 2nd hole is par 5 with water in front of the tee box. The water does not really come into play on the tee shot. I hit a poor tee shot right. Luckily there is plenty of space for a wayward tee shot to the right if you hit a decent length and avoid the OB.

3rd hole at North sound golf club

The 3rd hole is rated the most difficult hole on the golf course. There is water from the tee and when you approach the green. There is plenty of space for the drive and I hit a perfect tee shot down the fairway.

The approach shot to the 3rd green is over water and I hit a 9 iron to the top level of the green. Just missed the birdie.

5th hole at North sound golf club

The 5th hole is a good par 3. The wind was straight into our face and strong which is normal for Cayman Island. I made a poor club selection and tried to hit a 5 iron which hit the front edge and bounced back into the water. Poor double bogey.

Risk/reward par 5 hole 6

tee shot on 6th hole

The tee shot on the 6th hole is a real risk/reward. It is a severe dogleg right to left. This is where the benefit of playing with members comes into play as they where able to give me the line over the trees. I did not manage to utilize it very well as my tee shot was a draw in the wrong direction being left handed. Manage to get a decent par.

Hole 9, par 3

The 9th hole is a strong par 3. It was very windy and playing 200 yards. I hit a really good tee shot and was happy to walk off the green with a par.

Hole 11 at North sound golf club

The 11th hole is the signature hole on the course and rightly so. It is visually really well designed and a challenging hole. The predominant wind is against as it was when I was playing. The hole was playing 220m and I hit a perfect 3 wood.

Hole 11 green at North sound golf club

I was setup for a great birdie opportunity which sadly lipped out. The views from the green is amazing and one of the reasons why playing these type of courses in small islands are a great experience.

The par 5 hole 12 has OB running up the right hand side and the landing area for the tee shot is quite narrow. I still took the driver and ended up in the middle of the fairway with a hybrid to the green. My approach shot ended up in the fringe but unfortunately I 3 putted from there and still no birdie.

On the par 3 hole 13 I hit a 5 iron that was a bit too long and left myself a tricky downhill chip. Did not manage to scramble and resulted in a bogey.

Hole 16 at North sound golf club

The 16th green is nicely surrounded by palm trees and a green with different levels.

18th hole at North sound golf club

The finishing hole at North sound golf club is a tough par 5 with water all the way to the green. A really good hole and I was happy with a scramble par after being in the water from the tee.

My experience

I really enjoyed the course. The greens were in great shape and overall the course is a good test of golf. It is still challenging even though it is a short golf course. There is a lot of water in play and the wind plays a strong factor. I shot 77 with a couple of double bogeys and not a single birdie. Decent round of golf and happy to get the Cayman golf experience.
