Golf Club Crans-sur-sierre is a course I have been wanting to play for a long time. It is host to the Omega Masters in Switzerland and located in the beautiful mountains.  I played the course during the month of October and I was lucky to get wonderful sunny weather and nice warm conditions for the time of year.

PUTTING GREEN

Hole 1

The first hole is a straight par 5 over a small hill from the tee. It was playing short due a temporary green when I played as they were redoing a few of the greens.

My tee shot was down the middle of the fairway and I had a 9 iron to the green. I made an opening par.

HOLE 2

Hole 2 is a slight uphill par 4 measuring 375 meters. My tee shot went into the right hand rough and my approach shot found the green side bunker. I hit a really good bunker shot and made a good par.

HOLE 3

The third hole is a short par 3 to a tricky green. It is a narrow green and with run off areas on both sides. The tee shot needs to be really accurate to stay on the green and on the right level to the hole. I thought my 9 iron tee shot was great when I hit it and it landed pin high. It spun down to the right hand fringe. That left me with a little chip and I managed to make par.

HOLE 4

Golf Club Crans sur sierre hole 4 is a downhill dogleg right par 4. The landing area form the tee is narrow. I still opted for the driver from the tee and I hit a really solid drive. My approach shot was also good to the temporary green and I was close to making birdie.

HOLE 6, short par 4 on Golf Club Crans-sur-sierre

Hole 5 is a short par 4 but still a good challenge. There is bunkers in the fairway and by the green. I was tempted to try and get close to the green but thought it was too risky. My 4 iron was perfectly hit down the middle of the fairway to setup a short approach shot. I found the right level of the green and safely 2 putted for par.

HOLE 7 - iconic par 4

The 7th hole just breathtaking and so iconic to the course. Above pictures and videos does not do it justice and you have to experience it live to really get the true experience. The mountains make it very special and the hole itself is a great risk reward opportunity. It is definitely the peak of the round and I had to try and reach the green from the tee. I almost managed…. my tee shot ended up in the fringe and unfortunately I only managed to make par from there.

PIT STOP

They have a really nice half way house after 9 holes where quite a few people were taking a break and enjoying the views.

BACK NINE ON GOLF CLUB CRANS-SUR-SIERRE

HOLE 10

The 10th hole is a par 4 with with water on the left hand side that comes into play from the tee. I played a hybrid from the tee that found the fairway. My approach shot was too long and I made bogey from behind the green.

HOLE 12

12th hole is a good par 4 with a blind tee shot to a dogleg right. The approach shot is downhill to a green protected with water and a green that slopes down towards the water. A really good hole that I did not play well. I missed my tee shot left and was blinded by trees. Made bogey after a lay up.

HOLE 13

Hole 13 is the well known and recognizable par 3 with water and bunkers. It was only playing 118m and I hit a really good wedge. It was a very good birdie opportunity that I sadly missed.

HOLE 14

The 14th hole is a great par 5 that is reachable in two. I was very excited after hitting a good drive and having the opportunity to go for the green. My 3 wood approach shot was not quite good enough and just bounced into the water close to the green. I completely missed my chip shot and ended up with a double bogey.

HOLE 15

Golf Club Crans-sur-sierre 15th hole is a another par 5 that is reachable in two. I was again in a good position from the tee and had a blind uphill shot to the green. This time I managed to find the green in 2 and had a long eagle putt. I was too aggressive and 3 putted for par. Two par 5s that I completely missed out on and that I should have played in fewer shots.

HOLE 17

The 17th hole I really enjoyed even though I did not play it well. It is a short par 4 where my tee shot ended up right at the front edge of the fairway bunker. I only had 91m to the green but I hit a poor shot that went into the water. Another double bogey on the scorecard.

HOLE 18

The 18th hole is one of the holes I was really looking forward to playing. After watching it so many times on television it was fun to see how much the fairway slopes down towards the bunkers on the right hand side. You really need a good tee shot to setup the approach. I opted for a hybrid from the tee and found the fairway. My approach shot safely found the green and I made a finishing par.

MY EXPERIENCE

Golf Club Crans-sur-sierre is a special experience and was my first time playing in the mountains like this. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the weather obviously helped to make such a good experience.

I played really well on the front 9 and was out in 1 over par. I shot 42 on the back nine to get in a round of 79. I would have liked to shoot a bit lower after such a good a start but I was still happy with a score below 80.

The course was in good condition and the green was good. I played with a couple of members which was nice and also helped with some of the directions from the tee.
