The Country Club of North Carolina, also know as CCNC, is located close to the Pinehurst golf resort. It is a private members club with two courses. I visited the club during the month of March to play the Cardinal course. I have been to the area before to play Pinehurst #2 and Pinehurst #4. We arrived in the morning and had a bit to eat before heading to the range to hit a few balls.

Country Club of North Carolina has many other activities to offer apart from golf. There is a swimming pool, racquets, fitness center and lakes where you can fish and kayak. It also offers cottages for members and guests to stay during their visit.

Hole 1

The first hole is a short uphill par 4 measuring 258 meters from the blue tees. It is a slight dogleg right to left with well placed bunkers on both sides of the fairway.

I hit my driver into the fairway and had a short approach shot to the green. My approach shot landed safely on the green to setup a 2 putt par on the opening hole.

HOLE 2

The second hole is a straight par 5. I hit a poor drive into the right hand trees. Luckily there was an opening to get out and I managed to progress the ball down towards the hole. My approach shot found the water to the right and I ended up with a double bogey.

HOLE 3

The third hole is a great par 3 over the water. I played my tee shot a bit too safe and was in the rough over the right hand bunker. My chip shot was great and I managed to safe par.

HOLE 4

Country Club of North Carolina hole 4 is a par 4 measuring 321m. There is water up the left hand side and in front of the green. My tee shot was a driver to the right hand side in the rough. I hit a good approach shot onto the green but 3 putted for a bogey.

HOLE 11

The 11th hole is a good par 5. The water from the tee is not really in play but there is more water by the green. My drive was missed to the right in the semi rough. I played a good layup and managed to convert my approach shot to a birdie. The second birdie on the round and much needed.

HOLE 12

12th hole is a mid iron par 3 slightly uphill. I missed my 8 iron tee shot and made bogey.

HOLE 14

Tee shot on hole 14.

HOLE 15 - great par 5 on Country Club of North Carolina

The 15th is a reachable par 5 with water by the green. My tee shot was good and I hit a 3 wood pin high in the fringe. It was a good birdie opportunity but my chip shot did not get close enough to the hole so I had to accept a par.

HOLE 17

Tee shot on hole 17 of Country Club of North Carolina.

HOLE 18

The finishing hole is a downhill par 4  with views of the clubhouse. A nice hole with water protecting the front of the green and I am sure that many short approach shots will roll back down the hill into the water in the summertime. I missed my drive right and had to settle for a bogey.

MY EXPERIENCE

Country Club of North Carolina is a really nice club and place to visit. The club facilities and service is good. Cardinal golf course was a great experience even though I did not play my best golf.

My score of 84 with a couple of birdies was not satisfactory and the 3 double bogeys added to the poor score. I would definitely like to come and play either course again.
