Chateau Taulane is located North of Nice on the south coast of France. This is a course I have been recommended by several fellow golfers that all rate it as one of the best they have played in France. I played the course during the month of July and had beautiful weather. The course is open to the public and tee times can be booked online.
Driving range
There is a nice shaded driving range close to the clubhouse and I hit a few balls before tee off.
Hole 1
The first hole is a par 4 measuring 336 meters from the regular tees. It is a slight dogleg left and the tee box is elevated from the fairway. The fairway is generous enough and I hit my driver. Found the fairway and made par even though my approach shot came up slightly short of the green.
HOLE 2
The second hole is a par 3 measuring 140 meters. I hit a good 8 iron just over the pin and made par.
HOLE 3
The third hole is a great par 5 measuring 446 meters. The shot is slightly blind and I thought a good drive over the left hand side would be possible. I hit a decent drive but was blocked out by trees so could only lay up just short of the green. A good straight drive would have been better and open up for an approach shot to the green.
HOLE 4
Chateau Taulane hole 4 is a dogleg left par 4 playing 336m. My drive ended up to far right and I did not have a shot to the green. Made bogey after laying up. This hole is very typical for the course and a good challenge.
HOLE 6
Hole 6 is a downhill par 4. I made bogey after a perfect drive, but unfortunately missed my approach shot into the bunker.
HOLE 7
Hole 7 is another dogleg par 4. Short by tricky with little room for error from the tee. Was satisfied with a par after laying up with a hybrid from the tee.
HOLE 8
HOLE 9
The 9th hole is a good par 4. From the tee it is a dogleg right and there is decent room over the right hand trees which is where it hit my drive. Had a short approach shot to the green which I missed and made bogey.
BACK NINE ON CHATEAU TAULANE
HOLE 11
HOLE 13
Chateau Taulane 13th is a great par 5 where you stand elevated on the tee with great views. The water next to the green makes the approach shot a challenge especially if you are trying to reach it on 2 shots. There is space to miss it left and leave a chip shot to the green.
HOLE 15
The 15th is a par 4 dogleg left where you need to avoid the fairway bunkers. Approaching the green that is well protected with water and bunkers. I great looking and challenging hole.
HOLE 16
Hole 16 is an uphill drivable par 4 playing 240m. It was into the wind and not in range for me. I still took the driver form the tee and had a short chip to the green. Always fun with a par 4 like this.
HOLE 18
The finishing hole is a par 5. The tee shot is difficult and you need to take over the left hand trees which I hid and ended up in the left hand rough. Great looking hole when you approach the green and have the Chateau Taulane in the background. Good way to finish.
MY EXPERIENCE
Chateau Taulane was a great experience. It definitely lived up to all the recommendations and certainly a place I want to visit again. Although next time I will stay at the hotel and play a couple of rounds. The course was in good shape with soft greens. I shot 79 and played well.
