Carnegie Golf Club is located in the northern part of Scotland not far from Dornoch. It is part of the estate that also includes Skibo Castle and home to the private Carnegie Club. We also played Royal Dornoch (link) and Castle Stuart (link) during this trip.
CLUBHOUSE
The clubhouse at Carnegie golf club is bright and well designed. It is a nice place to enjoy before or after your round of golf. There is limited tee times available for guests and the reservation included lunch after our round. They have some nice features to the experience included, like your own locker with name and a gift bag with golf items.
PRACTICE FACILITIES
The driving range and practice facilities are great. Good little pitch & chipping area as well.
HOLE 2
The second hole is par 4 dogleg left to right. There is bunkers of both sides of the fairway. I missed the fairway from the tee and reached had to lay up. Made bogey.
HOLE 4
The 4th hole is a great par 3. Bunkers protecting the green and puts pressure on an accurate tee shot. I hit a good 8 iron and 2 putted for par.
HOLE 7
7th hole is a short par 4 with split fairway and well positioned bunkers. The aggressive line is towards the top tier over the first bunkers which will leave a short pitch to the green. I missed my drive right and made bogey.
HOLE 11
Hole 11 is a great par 4 with water running down the right hand side. A decision to be made from the tee on how much you want to cut the corner. I reached the green in regulation but 3 putted for a bogey.
HOLE 14
The 14th hole is a nice par 5. A missed my drive into the right hand rough but had a good enough lie to get to the green. 2 putted for a nice birdie.
HOLE 17
The 17th is reachable par 4. A well designed hole with plenty of bunkers and the opportunity to go for the green from the tee and setup a good scoring possibility. My drive ended up in the fringe but I only managed to get a par.
HOLE 18
The finishing hole is a par 5 and you are served a whiskey upon arrival.
MY EXPERIENCE
Carnegie Golf Club was overall a mixed experience. The service, clubhouse, facilities and nice touches with the locker rooms, whiskey, etc.. were all great. Unfortunately the golf course was not in great shape which was disappointing. Especially the greens were not up to standard which we mentioned to the team. They acknowledged having problems with greens, but we were not informed about this beforehand which would have been a nice gesture. The course has some nicely designed holes and I am sure when the condition is better it is a different experience.
